Large Animal Bedding

Horses, Donkeys, Alpaca or Llamas, Goats, Pigs and Zoo Animals.

When it comes to respiratory or allergy problems Airlyte is your first line of defence. Veterinary Science recommends using un-used, recycled cardboard for bedding for prevention and treatment of animals with COPD, other breathing problems, allergies or other non-infectious respiratory diseases.

Research report supports that chopped cardboard bedding is found to be 5 times more absorbent than wood shavings, 6 times more absorbent than straw bedding.  It doesn’t get a chance to creep under mats and ferment, which is detrimental to horses and other animals’ respiratory tract and wellbeing.

Small Animal Bedding

Chickens, Poultry, Guinea pigs, Rabbits, Rats and Reptiles.

Dust studies on animals are growing and it is likely that the effects of dust exposure on animals, particularly smaller species, is likely to be even more pronounced especially as they are in close continual contact with their bedding than it is on humans.  This is because humans have a relatively poor sense of smell in comparison with other animals, and therefore irritants to the respiratory system can cause more issues due to their greater reliance on smell for locating food and identifying and interacting with other animals.

Pine Shavings in the Coop: The Secret Chicken Killer?

Blog on toxic chicken coup shavings- Thefeatherbrain.com

“Pine Bedding is unsafe for chickens due to the damaging effects of abietic acid on the respiratory system, the damaging effects of terpene hydrocarbons and aromatic compounds on liver function and the carcinogenic nature of pine dust.”

TESTIMONIAL

PROUD LOCAL (Kaiwaka) who uses PERMACULTURE Principles

“I was thrilled when we came across AIRLYTE.”   Nov 2021

“We moved onto a spray free property a few years ago which we are managing based on permaculture principals as much as possible.  We have two chook flocks and we started using Airlyte for our egg laying Hylines flock.  They are fantastic daily egg layers, but we found their coup nesting boxes were getting messy resulting in extra labour.

I was thrilled when we came across Airlyte about 6 months ago (Nov 2021)- it keeps our nesting boxes (Up-cylced drawers!) much cleaner than the straw, which became very damp and messy!

It saves our straw for edible purposes for our other livestock, and it supports our values of trying to re-use and repurpose materials from within our own community.

When the hens are done with it, I refresh the nesting boxes with clean Airlyte, I simply add the used Airlyte it to the vege  gardens as the worms love it - and it's rich with chook manure to feed our veges!!

It's a great renewable system & now we enjoy clean fresh eggs straight to the kitchen bench. How good is that?! 😊”
