Our Story

Owners Grant and Lesley saw the need to reduce the waste going to our landfills. The Airlyte product was originally made in Christchurch in the early 2000’s with a large shredder machine brought in from the UK. It shifted to Ruawai, then Manukau and back to Christchurch but is now here in Kaipara.

Northland businesses alone generate more than 5000 tonnes of waste corrugated cardboard. Although we are only processing a fraction of New Zealand’s waste cardboard, it’s great to be part of a local solution to what is really an international problem.

The cardboard is stripped of tape and staples, then “cross-shredded” into approximately 15mm pieces, dust is removed and it is packaged into 100L Bags (approx 18-20kg). We are told that the inks used on most packaging is now vegetable based as required by the printing industry. Our packaging bags are “Soft Plastic Recyclable” - LDPE #4 or can be returned to us for re-use or can be re-used by the customer.
